Who We Are

At the heart of Triple R Oasis is family, whether by blood or by choice. Our lifelong passion to build a community based on sharing ideas, inspiration, energy and art immersed in the beauty of nature led Deborah McLeod and her son Rick Shimer to build a retreat space in the North Carolina mountains just outside of Burnsville. Triple R is not just our business, it’s our home.

Triple R Oasis focuses on the three Rs of Reconnect, Recharge, and Renew (as well as the three Rs that you may be familiar with, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). We would like to invite you to our beautiful, secluded place in the woods to help you Reconnect with friends and family, Recharge in the beauty of nature, and Renew your creative pursuits. Not only is it a classroom, but it is also a place for you to stay, to learn new skills in both the arts and sustainability, and to unwind, slow down a bit, and find yourself.

Deb’s day job is Chief of Staff for a company called Solliance. Over the last 25 years, she has satisfied her logical, techy side through IT Project Management and is currently a Global Community Lead for the WIT (Women in Tech) Network and serves on the Microsoft Partner Advisory Council. Deb fulfills her creative soul by organizing scrapbook retreats and hosting stamp/papercraft workshops to commune with other crafty humans. To get a complete picture of Deb, it’s also important to note her deep love of Jimmy Buffett and Dracula.

Rick is a Professional Lost Boy. This helps explain why when asked what he does for a living he could answer that he’s a “retired” teacher, a long-time hidden artist, an environmental supporter, a builder, an entrepreneur, a cross-country rambler, a photograph creator, a lover of beauty, a seeker of truth, a late night dreamer and a mid-morning psychopath. Always a priority are his two beautiful daughters, Kaya and Bella.
